(Based upon text from the Church Alive! A pastoral letter from Bishop David Zubik)

Loving God, You gave us the Eucharist as your abiding presence with us. Help us to become open to Christ’s call and enable us to embody Christ in our every thought, word and deed. May we, like Mary, receive Christ within our bodies and ponder the profound mystery of this sacrament of love. May our Bishops, priests and deacons be bridges to help God’s word become more deeply rooted in the lives of the faithful in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. May consecrated men and women become instruments of Christ’s mission to those they encounter daily. May those who serve as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion share the Body and Blood of Christ with reverent tenderness. May all liturgical ministers appreciate and understand the great witness they give to the sanctity of the liturgy. May every member of the assembly truly make old comers and new comers welcome. May all of us genuinely look for ways to live the reality of the Eucharist by pouring out our lives in humble service. May we never take for granted the incomparable experience of receiving the real presence of Christ in the sacrament of the Eucharist. May we find in Eucharistic Adoration a focus for our lives before the presence of Christ and become more receptive to the call of Christ to us. May the Body and Blood of Christ give us the strength and courage to grow the Church Alive in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. May we keep forever in our hearts The Eucharist… His abiding presence with us always. Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph *

O St. Joseph whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the Throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph do assist me by your powerful Intersession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; So that having engaged here below your Heavenly power I may offer my Thanksgiving and Homage to The most Loving of Fathers. O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating You and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press him in my name and kiss His fine Head for me, And ask Him to return the Kiss When I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, Patron of Departing Souls, pray for us.

Troubled Times

Savior Jesus, I am beset with problems and search for solutions. I feel overwhelmed by difficulty and cannot concentrate on the tasks which are at hand. My dispirited soul yearns for freedom from worry.
As you prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Father, remove this Cup from me,” so I pray that you will help me find a way through these troubled times and that Peace will be restored in my life.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit, fill my heart with your holy gifts.

Let my weakness be penetrated with your strength this very day that I may fulfill the duties of my state in life conscientiously, that I may do what is right and just.

Let my charity be such as to offend no one and hurt no one’s feelings; so generous as to pardon sincerely any wrong done to me.

Assist me in all the trials of life, enlighten me in my ignorance, advise me in my doubts, strengthen my weakness, help me in all needs and embarrassment, protect me in temptations and console me in all afflictions.

Graciously hear me, O Holy Spirit, and pour your light into my heart, my soul and my mind. Assist me to live a holy life and to grow in goodness and grace.
