Fr. James F. Murphy, Pastor
Fr. James Murphy was raised in Whitehall in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. He attended St Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin grade school. After graduation in 1958 he went to St. Charles seminary in Catonsville Maryland for high school. After graduation in 1962 he went to our Lady of the Lake Seminary in Syracuse Indiana then on to St Vincent’s Seminary and University where he received a Bachelor’s of Arts in 1966 and at the completion of four years of scripture and theology studies and pastoral training he received a Masters of Divinity. In the same year (1970), Bishop Leonard ordained him a Priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh at St. Paul Cathedral on May 16.
His first priestly assignment was as Parochial Vicar at St. Albert the Great, Baldwin, PA. He was only to serve for 4 years in that position before Bishop Leonard assigned him to be in charge of all youth spiritual development for the Diocese.
Fr. Murphy remained in this position for ten years. During this time he conducted hundreds of youth and family retreats. He established a catholic retreat center at Laurelville PA located in the mountains of western PA near Seven Springs. In 1982 he established a retreat program at Gilmary Diocesan Center and in 1983 became the Director of the center and continued as Director of all spiritual development for youth of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
In 1985, Fr. Murphy requested to go back to parish work and was assigned to St. James the Apostle Parish in New Bedford, PA. While at St. James, he built a new church, education center and remodeled the original church into a social hall.
On September 11, 1995 Bishop Wuerl named Fr. Murphy pastor of Saint Fidelis Parish. St Fidelis Parish was a merger of three parishes St. John, St Stanislaus and St. Conrad. Fr. Murphy set aside the next two years for much prayer and discussion in order to truly establish a unified community. Once the unification took root St Fidelis Parish began to blossom. It grew in population, ministry and facilities. In 2007 Fr. Murphy developed and oversaw the building of a new social hall/gym, kitchen, offices and the remodeling of the old gym into new classrooms. Also during this time he received his Doctorate of Ministry degree. In 2009 Fr. Murphy oversaw the design and building of the Narthex, a beautiful stained glass entrance to the church.
Fr. Murphy is the District Manager of the Butler area Catholic churches and he sits on the board of members of Catholic Charities. More importantly, his golf game is constantly improving, but then again, it couldn’t do much else!

Co-Director: Mrs. Celine Mitchel
Celine's journey to St. Fidelis began in Poland, took a detour in Braddock and Verona, PA. While raising three children with her husband Bob, Celine completed her college education thru Geneva College, receiving a B.S. in Community Ministry, and at Duquesne University with an M.A. in Religious Education. Her dreams have come true of becoming a missionary as she travels the world teaching the Missionaries of Charity and other lay catechists, parents and grandparents about the CGS process where children fall in love with God. Her passion for her faith and Montessori education and her love for children are her fuel for spreading CGS to parishes near and far. Celine and Bob live at the Good Shepherd House of Prayer, a non-profit retreat center dedicated to nourishing relationships with Jesus, the Good Shepherd. They have three grown children and three grandchildren.
