The Diocese of Pittsburgh requires that parents notify us in advance when children will be absent.  To report your child’s absence and reason, please call the Faith Formation Office at 724-482-2362.  Please do not email as we may not always check email on time.  Please note expanded absentee policy in the right column.

Children and youth should always arrive on time.

Those children in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Levels I and II should be accompanied to the classroom door by an adult.  The adult should not leave until the catechist arrived.

Early Dismissal
A signed note from the parent is required.  The parent should come to the Faith Formation Office to sign out the child at the designated time.

On Monday evenings when the Butler School District is off, the Faith Formation Sessions are still ON.  The only exception is the MLK holiday.

Cancellations are posted on KDKA and WPXI both TV and their internet sites.
When the Butler Schools close early or cancel for the day, all afternoon and evening Faith Formation sessions will also be cancelled.

If the Butler Schools have been in session for the day but weather becomes inclement, check for a cancellation announcement at KDKA or WPXI.

Emergency Contact
If you need to contact us during your child’s session, please call 724-482-2362.  This is the direct line for the Faith Formation Office.  Someone is in the office and will answer while the children are in the building.  If there is no answer, leave a message and you should receive a return call shortly.

If we need to contact you while your child is at St. Fidelis, we will try all the contact numbers listed on your registration form until we reach someone.

Attendance procedure:
The name of the child or the youth who is absent will be written in on a special post card and will be sent home to the parents.
The parents and child/youth will review the Pflaum lesson online.

Then the child/youth will either: write a paragraph reflection on the gospel of the day, or draw, compose a poem or something else which reflects comprehension of the gospel and turn it in to the catechist the next session.

When more than 5 absences are recorded in one Faith Formation year, then there will be a Service Make-Up Day in May.  This day is required for the child/youth to move from one grade level to the next.

Special circumstances, while rare, will be decided on an individual basis.
